Bienvenida Amanda

Peter is no longer the youngest Stayner baby (his stint in the spot lasted only two weeks) thanks to the birth of the adorable Amanda Jane, shown above. She was born exactly two weeks after Peter, on Friday, February 23. She weighed in at 7 pounds 1 ounce and is 19 1/2 inches long. Yay for babies! And congrats to Katie and Josh, the proud parents (who are happy to welcome a little girl after three boys! Yay!).


Peter is still cute as ever. He's now more than two weeks old and it's crazy how fast he's growing already. When he was first born, he pretty much just ate and slept . . . and that was about all the interaction we got with him. Now he loves to be awake (during the day; somehow he already knows his days and nights, hooray!) and play. We sing to him, show him toys and blocks, talk to him, read to him, etc., and he is very good at showing us if he's happy or sad. He even has flashed us an adorable smile on occasion (see the pic to the left!). Ahh, how we love this little boy.

In law school news, Robert has been accepted to University of Illinois and was offered a scholarship, yay! He also has heard from Northwestern; his application is on "hold" there, meaning that they are going to let their first choice people in, then if they have a spot for him . . . they'll let him in. We'll see. No word yet from Stanford, U of Chicago, UCLA, or Temple. We'll keep you posted.

We Love Peter!

This is going to be brief, because I should get to bed so I can get some sleep before "Little Suck" wakes for his next feeding. But here are a few more pics of the kid. Isn't he the cutest?

We still are crazy about him and are so excited to be his parents. I'm healing well, though I push myself too hard on occasion. Luckily, I have a great Mom and husband who both help me out and remind me to let myself rest and heal. Thanks Mom and Robert! I love you both!

Also . . . no joke, two days ago (when Peter was 8 days old), we were doing "tummy time" play (as the name suggests . . . it's when you put the baby on his tummy so he can develop muscles and such) and Peter actually ROLLED himself over! Holy cow! He was on a flat surface, and though I was nearby on the ground, I honestly did not have a hand on him or anything. He did it all on his own. According to our baby book, babies usually don't roll over until 2-5 months. Yep, we've got a Hercules.

Being parents is the best. We both love it and look forward to all of the adventures ahead.

Peter Robert Gibbons

Here is the man of the hour---Peter Robert Gibbons, born at 6:22 p.m. on Friday, February 9th (which was our due date, crazily enough). He weighed 8 lbs. 8 oz., and measured in at 21 & 1/2 inches.

The woman of the hour was Jocelyn, who endured four days of difficult and painful contractions before finally going into active labor on Friday afternoon. She was dilated to a 5 by the time she was checked at the hospital, and within less than two hours, she had progressed to an 8. It was only then that she was given an epidural.

The baby's heart rate started to slow way down at this point; it recovered momentarily but then dipped down again and no amount of movement on Jocelyn's part would bring it back up. In a few moments, our mothers were rushed out of the room and several nurses and doctors were next to Jocelyn's bed. Before I knew it, I was signing a paper giving permission to the doctors to perform a C-section, which they did masterfully.

Hearing the baby's cry for the first time, as I sat behind the shield with my wife, was truly one of the greatest moments of my life. The doctors cleaned him up and let me hold him next to my wife's face so that she could see and kiss him. Then I wheeled him off to the nursery while they sewed Jocelyn back up.

Both baby and mother are doing excellently now. Jocelyn is constantly tired, and Peter is constantly hungry.

We are so grateful for this new addition to our family.

Piccadilly Cowboy

Exciting news in the world of Gibbonsdom. I called into 101.9 The End this morning and was lucky enough to win passes to see the Utah premiere of Piccadilly Cowboy in March. I'm also entered to win a trip to London to see the London premiere. That would be quite exciting to win, since I've never been outside the country.

Apparently, Piccadilly Cowboy was made by an LDS guy and it has LDS characters; you can see the trailer at http://www.piccadillycowboy.com/.

In other movie news, I watched the trailer for a film called "September Dawn." It's listed as an upcoming LDS movie on ldsfilm.com, but it actually looks very anti-Mormon. It stars Jon Voight (from the 1st Mission: Impossible), and it's about the Mountian Meadows massacre.

And finally, and most importantly, Jocelyn and I think we have discovered a name to what she has been experiencing the past few days. Ouch

As evidenced in the pictures all around (yes, my husband is a ham :) . . . Robert BROKE his wrist snowboarding last Wednesday! He's in a snowboarding class through BYU, and on Wednesday, he fell awkwardly on his left hand. He actually said he didn't think much of it; it stung for a moment, but then he was okay enough to snowboard for another 2 hours or so (being careful to not use his left hand). We decided to get him checked out to be sure and it turns out that he broke it in TWO places. The first break is an easy one to heal according to the doctor, but the second break may be a little more risky, because if it's a deep and long enough break, it may kill the bone. He's going to see a specialist next week to find out if that's the case.

I couldn't stop laughing when we left the doctor's, because it was just so ironic (and thus funny) that Robert should break his wrist just a week before our baby's due. I keep suspecting that he broke it on purpose so he'd get off of diaper changing duty. I reassure him, though, that I have absolute confidence in his one-handed diaper changing abilities. HAHA.

Yes, I'm still pregnant. I've experienced *fun* contractions off and on all day for the past two days. I just hope they become consistent so I am actually in labor and can get this baby out! We'll let you know when it all happens . . .
