The New Naomily?

If you're a Skins UK fan, you're probably going to know who Naomily are.

You know, the really cute lesbian couple from Skins UK's 2nd generation of characters.

Anyway, if you don't know who they are, Naomi (left, Lily Loveless) and Emily (right, Kathryn Prescott) were the most recent teen couple on our screens that portrayed the love of 2 lesbians.

Until now.

The 3rd generation of Skins UK has brought us pansexual Franky (Dakota Blue Richards), whom some believed at first was a transgendered character.

Anyway, the straight-laced, popular Mini (played by Freya Mavor) appears now to have a little bit of a crush on Franky.

Previously, fans saw a young, straight girl in Mini, who lost her virginity to her then boyfriend this series.

However, the series finale hinted a few times at Minky's relationship becoming something more.

But WAIT! There's another person in the mix.

With Franky being pansexual, it seems that she's also caught the eye of a male friend too. Matty (Sebastian De Souza) is clearly in love with her, making it hard for Mini to get a look in.

Anyway, a lot of fans boycotted the show this year, claiming the cast looked 'boring' and many believed they wouldn't live up to the first two generations.

However, if you give generation 3 a chance, they're actually an interesting lot.

You should check it out. Then tell me what you think of Franky & Mini's little love triangle.

Skins recaps the day after the episodes air!

If, like so many Skins fans, you live in the US and can't watch for months but can't wait that long, then look no further.

That's right, funky new review site The Daily Wiggle are publishing a re-cap of the new series of Skins every Friday before pretty much any other website.

Good news (maybe) for you: The review will be written by yours truly. That means you can expect plenty of information on this gorgeous pair:

The first 3 episodes have already been re-capped, so head to www.thedailywiggle.com to catch up! Episode 2 was all about Emily (played by Kathryn Prescott), so expect plenty of dyke drama there.

This Friday, Emily's twin sister Katie (Megan Prescott) gets her turn in the forefront, which probably means there'll be quite a bit of Naomily thrown in there.

I look forward to seeing you there!

Top Lesbian News of 2009.

Yep, we're back for a second year with the top lesbian news of the year. With one difference: this year we'll be talking about 2009. Duh.

So what makes your top 5?

As it often features in the blog, I'd like to point out the arrival of Jessica Capshaw as the only lesbian character on television.

Grey's Anatomy got rid of one lesbian character last year and faced a lot of backlash from the gay community. But when Arizona came along, no one was complaining. Will we see the arrival of any more lesbians on TV in 2010?

In other television news, it seems that beloved(?) cable network show The L Word went off air this year.

The L Word paved the way for lesbian visibility way back in 2004, being the first show star an all female, mostly lesbian cast. However this year, the L Word showcased its final season. And boy, did it go out with a bang. For all the wrong reasons, of course.

We all saw a whole host of celebrities come out this year, too. From Brandi Carlile to Kelly McGillis, Clementine Ford to Megan Fox, 2009 was very good for the visibility of out, famous females.

Teens will obviously be very grateful for the lesbian romance portrayed on TV drama Skins between Naomi (Lily Loveless) and Emily (Kathryn Prescott).

Good news for 2010 too: they're back! And it looks all very dramatic too. Check out the E4 Website if you want to know more.

Of course, we also saw the re-administration of Proposition 8 in California this year. Bad news for all the gay and lesbian couples who were hoping to get married. Good news for the ones who took advantage of the law being overturned previously - they were allowed to stay married legally.

So what was the best (or worst) lesbian news for you this year? And what are you hoping happens next year?

Skins US? No thanks.

I briefly mentioned Skins in my last blog. And I feel like I need to mention it again.

I wasn't actually a fan of the show until series 3, which saw the romance between Naomi (Lily Loveless, below right) and Emily (Kathryn Prescott, below left) blossom. (I won't give anything away, so there's no need to beware of spoilers!)

As you can see, they're impossibly adorable. My personal favorite being Naomi. YUM.

The way in which the relationship is portrayed by the writers is enough to draw anyone in. The reason I say this is because of the realism of both the storyline and the acting. Any teen living in the UK can recognize that the whole of the Skins franchise is exactly the same as real life.

Obviously, lesbian relationships on TV are often done in the wrong way (think Lesbian Vampire Killers and shudder as much as you like.) But Skins is different. It shows all of the things that would really happen - resistance, being frightened, giving in - showing viewers an overall realistic look into teen lesbian romance.

The fact that producers in America are proposing to create a 'Skins USA' however disappoints me.

British television, for whatever reason, is always allowed to be that bit more racy and explicit than American television. In fact, I'm surprised that The L Word got away with all the stuff they did. Take Sugar Rush as an example.

When it took to US screens, the public were shocked. Usually, they are confined to the 'peck-on-the-lips' sort of lesbian relationship. *cough* Spashley. But Sugar Rush displayed full on girl-on-girl sex scenes, leaving nothing to the imagination.

Say 'I' if you too don't want to ruin Skins by 'americanizing' it!
