I love people who think I care :)

I went on my website 'www.thedailywiggle.com' today, only to find a negative message from a reader.

Here's what it said:

"
People might give a crap about your stuff if you stopped shamelessly pimping it in every AfterEllen comment you make. It’s sad dear, no one cares about your view so stop spamming the comments of decent writers." - from 'Yawn'.

In response, I would like to say the following.

How is it sad to want people to read your writing? I've had messages from a lot of lesbians, young and old, who say my blog is both entertaining and helpful for them, so maybe you should keep your 'sad' comments to yourself in future.

Also, that blog has nothing to do with www.thedailywiggle.com, so maybe YOU should get your facts right before claiming that 'no one wants my opinion'. Furthermore, if you don't want my view, then simply don't read it. I'm sure you don't speak for the whole of the AfterEllen population when you say people 'don't care' about my view.

The 'visit my blog' section on the end of comments is on automatic and therefore it appears on every comment I make. I am also deeply distraught (good old British sarcasm for you there, by the way) that you don't think my writing is decent.

You're the first person to have complained, so maybe you should tell me by your real name if you have a problem, rather than go by an unimaginative code name.

That is all.

Yours lovingly,
Lauren.

I think that is what you call 'pwning'.

AfterEllen, We Salute You.

I'm guessing that most of you stumbled upon this blog because of AfterEllen.com.

If you didn't, and you still don't know what AfterEllen is, I'm suggesting that you get there right now.

A lot of my advertising comes courtesy of AE, with links to my blog at the end of every comment I make. (Yeah, I've never published a picture of me on the blog, so click
here if you want to see me.)

Therefore, because of all the good they do for me, I thought they deserved a shout-out from me.

AfterEllen is possibly one of the best, if not the best, lesbian and bisexual entertainment website online today. They often publish new, official gay information before any other websites or news-site, giving gay women the resources they need efficiently.

Founded by Sarah Warn, the website was started in 2002, after she realized that there was so little great lesbian content on the web.

Just recently, the entire site was taken over by writer Karman Kregloe, who also happens to be married to out comedian Bridget McManus, who also happens to vlog on the site. It's like a big chain of inter-connectedness.

Many of the writers also vlog about the pros and cons of lesbianism, entertainment and general civil rights. Great shows such as Skins and Grey's Anatomy are also re-capped, alongside reviews of music, competitions and the occasional opinion poll for the readers to vote on.

So there you have it.

I can't really do the site justice. It's done so much for the lesbian community single-handedly, so you should just get there as soon as you can and check it out.

But don't forget to keep coming here! ;)

That's What She Said

If you're a fan of AfterEllen.com, you'll almost certainly have heard of lezzie comedy duo 'That's What She Said.'

Made up of this gorgeous pair, (Kathryn Lounsbery, left, and Amy Turner), TWSS sing about all things dyke-related, from U-Haul to Fanny Packs.

So why am I blogging about them? Because they're hilarious, gorgeous, entertaining and I'm dying for you all to check them out of you haven't already done so!

Go to their MySpace to listen to some of their songs or check them out on AfterEllen! The MySpace also informs you lucky ladies of their upcoming shows, so get your asses on down and show them some sapphic support!

Watch TWSS's guest appearance on Brunch With Bridget right here!

Jill Bennett

I realized earlier this week when I was reading UK lesbian magazine DIVA that I don't blog about Jill Bennett enough.

Now usually, when you ask a dyke who her favorite all-time lesbian is, they'd probably answer 'Ellen!' or 'Rosie!' But to be honest, I'd have to say Jill.

So she's not as well known as Portia or Leisha, but she's high up on my own personal 'inspiration' list: she's talented - Jill played Michelle on season 3 of here! TV's D
ante's Cove and the infectious Andrea on lesbian comedy web series 3way - she's absolutely gorgeous, and she actually cares about the world, in particular, one of my all-time favorite topics, gay rights.

Currently dating SheWired's Cathy DeBuono, Jill recently protested outside the mormon church that funded anti-gay proposition 8 for the way in which gay people a
re now classed as second class citizens in California. (Below.) This is just one of the many things Bennett has done for gay welfare, as well as sharing her life with the lesbian community - both on SheWired and AfterEllen.com - ensuring people everywhere that being gay really is ok.

For constant personal updates on Jill, follow her on Twitter: twitter.com/jillbennett14.
Alternatively, click over to SheWired.com for Jill's current video blogs or go to her MySpace page at MySpace.com/JillBennett.

I personally think she's one to watch out for: she's certainly impressed me over the past few years.

Cat On The Prowl.

As you may or may not know, I'm a HUGE fan of lesbian and bisexual site AfterEllen.com. And just recently, as I've had more spare time, I've started watching more and more vlogs. (That's short for 'video blogs' if you're not so tech savvy...)

Anyway, my personal favorite vlogs over at AE are 'Brunch With Bridget', 'This Just Out With Liz Feldman' and the late 'We're Getting Nowhere', (R.I.P!) starring Dante's Cove beauty Jill Bennett.

As I've never mentioned it before, I thought I should mention the greatness of one of the latest additions to video blog family 'Cat On The Prowl.'

Hosted by the completely adorable lesbian comic Cat Davis, Cat On The Prowl is funny, clever and downright entertaining! If you've never visited AfterEllen before, I suggest you do. It's especially good for lesbian/bisexual women who are still in the closet and have no other means of expressing their thoughts on their gay lifestyles. There are even forums you can talk to other gay people in.

You should also visit Cat's MySpace at www.myspace.com/catdaviscomedy to see some of her hilarious stand-up! Cat will also be performing at Dinah Shore this April, so book your tickets early.

Here's a quick sneak-preview of some comedy from the lovely Ms. Davis. (Who also happens to be a total musical theater geek - which I dig!)

10 Favorite Lesbian Anthems...

So there are a lot of songs that I class personally as 'lesbians anthems'. I was just wondering, would 2009 produce any more great songs loved by Sapphic ladies?

Here I've produced a list of 10 songs (in no order!) that I, along with my lesbian friends, really love. It was harder to compile this list than I thought it would be, but I got there in the end... (Thanks to my friend Rosie.) And I've been extra careful not to let any lesbian imposters slip in there...

1) Hit Me With Your Best Shot (1980) - Pat Benatar.

So Pat isn't a lesbian... Doesn't mean we don't love her! With catchy lyrics, who cares?
If you like this song, you should also listen to:
  • Heartbreaker.
  • Love Is A Battlefield.
  • Shadows Of The Night.
2) Wait Another Day (2008) - Uh Huh Her.

1 lesbian. 1 possible lesbian. And that's not the best part! A relatively new band, starring The L Word's Leisha Hailey and the gorgeous Camila Grey, Uh Huh Her have charmed lesbian audiences all over the globe. They love their fans, and we love them.
Also listen to:
  • Covered.
  • Dreamer.
  • Not A Love Song.
3) Entertain (2005) - Sleater-Kinney.

Riot grrrl at it's best. There aren't really many riot bands left, but this song takes you back to the time when we were flooded with it. Great to dance to!
Also listen to:
  • One Beat.
  • All Hands On The Bad One.
  • What's Mine Is Yours.
4) Closer To Fine (1988) - Indigo Girls.

I have to say, the Indigo Girls are possibly one of my favorite lesbian bands... Ever. Their lyrics are sweet and meaningful and Closer To Fine just generally makes me happy.
Also listen to:
  • Romeo and Juliet.
  • Galileo.
  • Let It Be Me.
5) Crazy On You (1976) - Heart.

Gosh, look at that photo... You know you thought Heart were stunning back in the day. And their songs are raw, with guitar solos that almost make you pee your pants. Okay, maybe not pee your pants, but I'm sure you love them so much that you would pee your pants if they asked you to.
Also listen to:
  • Shell Shock.
  • Alone.
  • What About Love.
6) Not Listening (2008) - Sick Of Sarah.

The youngest and newest band of this list, Sick of Sarah are the closest thing to Riot Grrrl I've heard in years. They're catchy, wild and just plain gorgeous. To top it all off, their tune 'Not Listening' become the theme song to AfterEllen.com's Brunch With Bridget last year.
Also listen to:
  • Daisies.
  • Mr. Incredible.
  • Breakdown.
7) Echoing (1994) - The Murmurs.

Well done to Leisha Hailey! This is the second band featured in our list in which the lovely Ms. Hailey was a member of, but this song deserved a place. The best lyric obviously being "There's nothing disgusting about being gay, so many people have bad things to say, maybe they should try it some day..." What's not to love?!
Also listen to:
  • Genius.
  • La-Di-Da.
  • Underdog.
8) Down By The Water (1995) - PJ Harvey.

Despite being aesthetically yummy, lesbians love PJ Harvey's dreamy lyrics and beautiful songs. And there's nothing better to listen whilst having hot, steamy bedroom time. Not that I would know, of course...
Also listen to:
  • We Float.
  • Hair.
  • Rid Of Me.
9) Sucka Mofo (2007) - Northern State.

The final modern band on the list, Northern State are ultimately just... uber cool! Looking at them, you wouldn't think they were a rap group, but they are quite possibly the only rap group I can actually stand.
Also listen to:
  • Away Away.
  • Girl For All Seasons.
  • Vicious Cycle.
10) Edge of Seventeen (1982) - Stevie Nicks.

Last, but definitely not least, what lesbian music list would be complete without a dosage of Stevie Nicks? Amazing vocalist, amazing song-writer, is there anyone who will ever beat Stevie? Probably not. I'm willing to take on anyone who challenges that last statement...
Also listen to:
  • Leather And Lace.
  • And The Days Go By.
  • Crystal.
So there we have it, my top ten lesbian anthems and artists. Comment this with anyone you think I've missed.

And please don't kill me for not including Tegan & Sara in this blog...

Gay Men and Gay Women hate each other?

So I'm going back to tenth grade, which is a long time ago, since I'm in college now. I don't know why I suddenly remembered this, but I thought I'd blog about it, just to hear your opinion.

Okay, I'm in a citizenship class with some of my friends. We are discussing gay and lesbian relationships with the community and leading the discussion is a guest speaker we have in school: a police officer. (Why we had a police officer in to talk about homosexuals, I have no idea.)

Anyway, so we're chatting about gays, and the officer comes up with the stupidest thing I ever heard. He says 'Gay men and gay women do not get along at all.' Someone next to me asks 'Why don't they?' The police officer replies 'They just don't. In gay bars, they stay away from each other.'

Annoyed by this, I put my hand up and say 'Well I get along
with gay men.' The police guy says 'But you're not a lesbian.' This left me even more pissed off with the guy, and I replied 'How do you know?' He then said 'I don't.' Then I just had to say 'Well I am a lesbian, and I have loads of gay male friends and get along with them just fine thanks.' Which then led to applause from all the gay and bisexual students in the room...

So I was looking for your opinion. Do gay men and lesbians generally not get along, or was the police guy just talking... well... crap? Do you have any homosexual male friends or is it some sort of stereotype for lesbians to steer clear of them?

Clearly the police officer wasn't as gay as this one.
